Rock 101

The Show

Ask a fan of rock ‘n’ roll to name ten classic songs, and no two people will agree. But the discussion will be animated because rock ‘n’ roll is part of everyone’s experience. It’s been central to the story of American culture for nearly seventy years, at least since 1954 when Elvis Presley first appeared on Ed Sullivan and everything changed. Rock 101 is a tour de force presentation that features an informative and entertaining narrative, a multimedia exhibition of fascinating videos and images, and a live band that will rock the house. The evening’s narrator will offer a brief history and introduce each song with stories that allow the audience to appreciate well-known tunes in new ways.

Some of these tidbits are factual—“Johnny B. Goode” was included on the Voyager Spacecraft to represent life on earth. Others might be musical—the highly unusual and unique shift from G major to B minor in “I Want to Hold Your Hand.”  There are songs by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Presley, The Band, The Beach Boys, Nirvana and more!

Rock 101 is a joyous evening where the audience learns something new while hearing something familiar.  The event does what rock ‘n’ roll at its best has always done: it makes us
feel alive.
